It is concerned with the mathematical modelling, analysis, and synthesis of control systems in order to achieve desired system performance. Control systems are essential in a wide range of technical applications, from industrial automation to robotics and aircraft.
Importance of Control System
Automation and Efficiency: Control systems allow for the automation and optimisation of many technical processes. Control systems may produce increased productivity, eliminate human error, and enhance overall system performance by controlling and optimising system variables.
Control systems play an important role in assuring the stability and safety of engineering systems. They keep track of and regulate system variables to avoid instability, oscillations, and catastrophic failures. Control systems add an extra degree of security by constantly adjusting inputs and preserving intended system behaviour.
Fundamental Knowledge: The course aims to equip students with a solid foundation in the principles of control systems. Students will get a deep knowledge of concepts such as mathematical modelling, feedback control, system response, and stability analysis.
Analysis and Design approaches: Students will master various control system analysis and design approaches. They will learn how to analyse system behaviour and build controllers that fulfil particular performance criteria using techniques such as root locus, frequency response analysis, and state-space representation.
System Modelling and Simulation: This course teaches students how to create mathematical models of control systems and utilise software tools to mimic their behaviour. Students will learn how to transform real-world systems into mathematical equations and use simulations to assess the operation of control systems.
